Two ferry companies, one timetable
On the Hirtshals - Kristiansand route, Color Line and Fjord Line sail side by side, and the timetable above shows both in one list. That's what sets this route apart from every other crossing to Norway: you don't just choose a time, you also choose the ship type, and with it the length of the crossing.
Outside the summer season, departures from Hirtshals are spread across the day like this: Fjord Line's cruise ferries in the morning and evening, Color Line's SuperSpeed 1 at midday and late in the evening. From Kristiansand, Color Line sails in the morning and afternoon, Fjord Line in the early afternoon. If you want to reach Norway early, take the first ferry of the day; if you set off after work, take the last evening departure and you'll arrive shortly before midnight.
What to bear in mind
The route runs year-round, but the frequency varies considerably. From March to September, Fjord Line adds the catamaran Fjord FSTR, which cuts the crossing to 2 hours 25 minutes and takes on several departures a day. In winter the cruise ferries sail alone, and from 18 December 2026 to 18 April 2027 Color Line replaces the SuperSpeed 1 with its sister ship SuperSpeed 2. So check your exact date above rather than assuming the pattern from another month.
For the other direction, switch to the return trip; each direction has its own list of departures.

How long does the crossing take? +
Depending on the ship: 2 hours 25 minutes on the catamaran, 3 hours 15 minutes on the SuperSpeed 1, and around 3 hours 55 minutes on the cruise ferries. It can take longer in strong wind.

Yes, it shows departures in both directions, from Hirtshals and from Kristiansand.
When do I need to be at check-in? +
With Fjord Line, 60 minutes before departure at the latest. With Color Line, check-in closes 15 minutes before departure, but 60 minutes is recommended there too. All deadlines are on the Check-in page.
